Safety Comparison

The Fit has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Forte Sedan doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Fit and the Forte Sedan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control and electronic stability systems to prevent skidding.

Warranty Comparison

The Fit’s 5 year corrosion warranty has no mileage limitations, but the corrosion warranty on the Forte Sedan runs out after 100,000 miles.

There are over 34 percent more Honda dealers than there are Kia dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Fit’s warranty.

Reliability Comparison

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2016 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Honda vehicles are more reliable than Kia vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Honda 7th in reliability, above the industry average. With 27 more problems per 100 vehicles, Kia is ranked 17th.

Suspension and Handling Comparison

The Fit EX handles at .82 G’s, while the Forte Sedan EX pulls only .81 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

Chassis Comparison

The Honda Fit may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 300 pounds less than the Kia Forte Sedan.

The Fit is 1 foot, 7.5 inches shorter than the Forte Sedan, making the Fit easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space Comparison

The Fit has .4 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more rear headroom and 3.4 inches more rear legroom than the Forte Sedan.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Fit’s rear seats recline. The Forte Sedan’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity Comparison

To allow full utilization of available cargo room, the Fit’s hatch uses gas strut supported hinges that don’t intrude into the cargo area. The Forte Sedan’s useful trunk space is reduced by its intrusive beam hinge.

Ergonomics Comparison

The Fit Automatic offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The Forte Sedan doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Fit’s driver’s power window opens or closes with one touch of the window control, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths. The Forte Sedan’s standard driver’s power window switch has to be held the entire time to close it fully.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Fit has a standard rear wiper. The Forte Sedan doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Fit has a standard automatic headlight on/off feature. When the ignition is on, the headlights automatically turn on at dusk and off after dawn. The Forte Sedan only offers an automatic headlight on/off feature as an extra cost option.

Economic Advantages Comparison

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Fit is less expensive to operate than the Forte Sedan because it costs $108 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost less on the Fit than the Forte Sedan, including $1 less for a water pump, $85 less for an alternator and $19 less for front brake pads.
