The Civic has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Regal Sportback doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Suspension and Handling Comparison

The Civic’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Regal Sportback doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better maneuverability, the Civic’s turning circle is 3.3 feet tighter than the Regal Sportback’s (35.7 feet vs. 39 feet). The Civic Sport Hatchback’s turning circle is 3.2 feet tighter than the Regal Sportback’s (37.8 feet vs. 41 feet).

Chassis Comparison

The Honda Civic may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1000 to 1250 pounds less than the Buick Regal Sportback.

The Civic Hatchback is 1 foot, 7.4 inches shorter than the Regal Sportback, making the Civic easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space Comparison

The Civic Hatchback has .5 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front legroom and .1 inches more front shoulder room than the Regal Sportback.

Ergonomics Comparison

If the windows are left open on the Civic the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Regal Sportback can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Civic Touring’s standard wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield. The Regal Sportback’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Both the Civic and the Regal Sportback offer available heated front seats. The Civic Touring Sedan/Sport Touring also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Regal Sportback.

Recommendations Comparison

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Civic second among compact cars in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Regal Sportback isn’t in the top three in its category.

The Civic Sport was chosen as one of Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” in 2018. The Regal Sportback has never been a Car and Driver “Top Ten” pick.

The Honda Civic outsold the Buick Regal by almost 33 to one during 2017.
