The HR-V offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The C-HR doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.
Both the HR-V and the C-HR have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.
The engine in the HR-V has a single overhead cam for simplicity. The engine in the C-HR has dual overhead cams, which add to the number of moving parts and the complexity of the cylinder heads.
On the EPA test cycle the HR-V FWD Auto gets better fuel mileage than the C-HR (28 city/34 hwy vs. 27 city/31 hwy).
The Honda HR-V may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 400 pounds less than the Toyota C-HR.
The HR-V has 16.3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the C-HR (100.1 vs. 83.8).
The HR-V has 1.4 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more front hip room, 7.8 inches more front shoulder room, 7.6 inches more rear legroom and 2 inches more rear shoulder room than the C-HR.
For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the HR-V’s rear seats recline. The C-HR’s rear seats don’t recline.
The HR-V has a much larger cargo area with its rear seat up than the C-HR with its rear seat up (24.3 vs. 19 cubic feet). The HR-V has a much larger cargo area with its rear seat folded than the C-HR with its rear seat folded (58.8 vs. 36.4 cubic feet).
To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the HR-V has standard extendable sun visors. The C-HR doesn’t offer extendable visors.
To direct the driver from any location to a given street address, a GPS navigation system is standard on the HR-V EX-L. The HR-V’s navigation system also has a real-time traffic update feature that offers alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The C-HR doesn’t offer a navigation system.
