Safety Comparison

The Odyssey has a standard Whiplash Mitigation Front Seat Design, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Whiplash Mitigation Front Seat Design system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The QX60 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Odyssey and the QX60 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front-wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, front and rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty Comparison

There are almost 5 times as many Honda dealers as there are Infiniti dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Odyssey’s warranty.

Reliability Comparison

The engine in the Odyssey has a single overhead cam for simplicity. The engines in the QX60 have dual overhead cams, which add to the number of moving parts and the complexity of the cylinder heads.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2016 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Honda vehicles are more reliable than Infiniti vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Honda 7th in reliability, above the industry average. With 10 more problems per 100 vehicles, Infiniti is ranked 13th.

Engine Comparison

The Odyssey’s 3.5 SOHC V6 produces 30 more horsepower (280 vs. 250) and 19 lbs.-ft. more torque (262 vs. 243) than the QX60 Hybrid’s standard 2.5 supercharged 4 cyl. hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range Comparison

An engine control system that can shut down half of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Odyssey’s fuel efficiency. The QX60 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Honda Odyssey uses regular unleaded gasoline. The QX60 requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Odyssey has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The QX60 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Tires and Wheels Comparison

The Odyssey’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the QX60’s standard 65 series tires.

The Odyssey has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The QX60 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling Comparison

The Odyssey has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The QX60’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Odyssey’s wheelbase is 3.9 inches longer than on the QX60 (118.1 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Odyssey is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than on the QX60.

Chassis Comparison

The front grille of the Odyssey uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The QX60 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space Comparison

The Odyssey offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the QX60 can only carry 7.

The Odyssey has 13.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the QX60 (163.6 vs. 149.8).

The Odyssey has 1.8 inches more front hip room, 2.8 inches more front shoulder room, 1.2 inches more rear headroom, 9 inches more rear hip room, 1.2 inches more rear shoulder room, 1.8 inches more third row headroom, 7.3 inches more third row legroom, 6.4 inches more third row hip room and 2.9 inches more third row shoulder room than the QX60.

Ergonomics Comparison

The Odyssey Touring/Elite has a standard center folding armrest for the third row rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable. The QX60 doesn’t offer a third row rear seat center armrest.

Standard smartphone integration for the Odyssey EX/EX-L/Touring/Elite allows the driver and passengers access to select programs on their smartphones, including reading text messages aloud, playing internet radio stations, tagging songs to buy them later, searching the internet, following twitter accounts and other connected activities without taking their eyes off the road or their hands from the wheel. The QX60 doesn’t offer factory integrated smartphone program access.

Recommendations Comparison

The Honda Odyssey outsold the Infiniti QX60 by almost three to one during the 2016 model year.
