A Battle of the Minivans – Comparing the 2019 Honda Odyssey in Katy

For today’s comparison, we’re taking the 2019 Honda Odyssey in Katy and putting it against the Kia Sedona. These two minivans share incredible features, but only the Odyssey has what it takes to push it over the top.

Beyond being good for the environment, having an excellent fuel economy helps lower fuel costs to save you money, increases energy stability, and reduces dependence costs. The Odyssey has a few tricks to improve its fuel efficiency, like better fuel mileage than the Sedona (19 city/28 hwy* vs. 18 city/24 hwy), and an engine control system that can shut down half of its cylinders. And if you get caught in heavy traffic or at stoplights, the Touring and Elite models engines automatically turn off to help you save even more fuel! Once you’re ready to move again, the engine will automatically kicks back on without missing a beat. When you finally do need to fill up the tank, expect a fuel filler that will automatically open and close when the fuel nozzle is inserted or removed. This nifty little feature helps reduce fuel evaporation which causes pollution. The Sedona doesn’t have this feature or an engine that can shut off half of its cylinders.

To be more visible under all weather conditions, the Odyssey is equipped with daytime running lights, which can aid in reducing accidents by 11%. If you are ever in an accident, the EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite models can utilize HondaLink Assist to alert emergency personnel of your location with its GPS receiver and cellular system. The Sedona only offers a navigation computer and doesn’t have Daytime Running Lights.

Inside the Odyssey’s cabin, you’ll find more features than ever before. To keep an eye on everyone in the second and third rows, the driver can use Honda CabinWatch® to see the backseats (standard on the Touring and Elite models). And to talk directly to passengers in the back, there’s no need to shout because the driver can use Honda CabinTalk™ which can override RES connected headphones or use the Odyssey’s speakers to get your message across (standard on EX-L, Touring, and Elite models).
